Site Surveyor (Set-Out) – Civil Infrastructure

Get in at the ground floor and grow into Survey Manager — building your own team as the projects scale.

A leading self-performing civil contractor is bringing its survey function in-house for the first time, and we’re looking for the first dedicated surveyor to own it. You’ll start solo across a strong pipeline of metro Brisbane projects, and as the workload grows over the next 6–12 months you’ll pick up chainmen and junior surveyors beneath you — with a genuine path to Survey Manager within a few years.

This is a rare chance to shape a survey team from scratch, not slot into someone else’s.

The role:
Hands-on, site-based set-out across civil infrastructure projects within roughly 20km of the Brisbane CBD — home every night, no FIFO. Day to day you’ll be:

• Setting out kerb alignment, stormwater, asphalt and pickups
• Working off models supplied by the principal contractor (converted to DXF) — minimal in-house modelling
• Running Trimble GPS and total stations
• Working across multiple metro projects with a self-managed schedule

The technical modelling is light. This is a practical, on-the-tools set-out role for someone who’s strongest in the field.

What we’re looking for:

• 2–4 years’ set-out experience with a civil or earthworks contractor
• Strong practical set-out — kerb, stormwater, asphalt, pickups
• Background on civil earthworks, basements or demolition projects is well regarded
• Confident on Trimble GPS and total stations
• Current Queensland driver’s licence

Just as important as the technical side: the right attitude. We’re after someone grounded and hands-on with no ego, who’s keen to learn, grow and build something — over a “set in their ways” operator. Personality and fit matter most here.
