Position Overview
We are seeking a talented Coastal Engineer to lead the technical delivery of coastal and maritime infrastructure and adaptation projects. This role covers early-stage investigation and design through to construction support, asset condition assessments and ongoing coastal process monitoring.
You’ll bring strong coastal and marine engineering capability, work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams, and deliver practical, resilient and sustainable coastal solutions for government, private and contractor clients across Australia.
Key Responsibilities
- Undertake coastal process assessments, hydrodynamic and sediment transport analyses, wave/tide modelling and metocean studies.
- Design and specify coastal and maritime infrastructure such as seawalls, breakwaters, revetments, groynes, jetties, marinas, boat ramps and shoreline protection structures.
- Conduct condition assessments and inspections of coastal and marine assets, preparing reports and recommendations for remediation or maintenance.
- Prepare technical design documentation including drawings, specifications, reports and permitting deliverables.
- Provide coastal and marine engineering advice during feasibility, planning and design phases, engaging with clients, contractors and regulatory bodies.
- Support project and construction management activities, including on-site engineering oversight and compliance with environmental and design requirements.
- Work closely with multidisciplinary teams — environmental, structural, geotechnical and planning — to integrate coastal engineering into broader project outcomes.
Essential Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Coastal, Ocean, Marine or Environmental Engineering (Master’s desirable).
- 7–10 years’ coastal or marine engineering experience, including coastal processes, shoreline protection, numerical modelling and/or marine infrastructure design.
- Strong understanding of wave and tide dynamics, sediment transport, coastal hazards, coastal morphology and climate-change adaptation.
- Proficiency in modelling tools such as MIKE21, Delft3D, SWAN or similar, plus CAD and general engineering software.
- Excellent report writing, communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Experience delivering consulting or contracting projects from feasibility through to construction, with strong capability in managing time, budget and technical quality.
What We Offer
- Opportunity to join a growing organisation with a collaborative culture and strong focus on work-life balance.
- Exposure to a wide variety of coastal, maritime, transport, energy and infrastructure projects across Australia.
- Ability to directly influence project outcomes through practical and sustainable engineering solutions.
- Professional development, mentorship and genuine opportunities to build specialist expertise in coastal and maritime engineering.
